What Foundations Are You Building?

Everything has a foundation that makes it survive. It’s a principle God Himself set in motion, though He is greater than it. That’s why He is not created.
Think about it: even the earth God created has foundations. In Job 38:4, God asked Job, “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?” And long before time began, Scripture says the Lamb was slain before the foundation of the world. Now, let’s pause and reflect on this together. Why can’t I build a house without laying foundations? The earth already has foundations.
Foundations Are InterconnectedFoundations are not stand-alone. They interloop with one another. One gives rise to another. Think of it like a ladder: You keep climbing, you keep building, and all through life you’re laying foundations. In fact, the entire labors of men are foundations. Your daily choices, efforts, and commitments are creating a foundation for the time to come.
Paul put it this way in 1 Timothy 6:19 (KJV):“Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”
What Is a Foundation? Before we go too deep, let’s agree on a definition.A foundation is simply anything that provides a platform for something to exist. So for anything to exist in your life, a foundation must first be laid. It’s like sowing and reaping. When you sow, you don’t see an immediate harvest, just the way foundations don’t yield overnight. But with time, the results become evident. Whatever you see expressed in a person’s life is a direct offshoot of the foundations they’ve already laid.
Let’s Make It PersonalWhat foundations have you built for yourself?
What foundations are you laying right now for the days to come? For your finances, your marriage, your purpose, your destiny, and your spirit man?
What foundations have you built for your children through your choices and decisions?
Because the truth is that storms will come. And when they do, only the right foundations will keep you unshaken. Now let’s flip the question: What if some of the negative experiences you’re facing today are not from your own choices, but from seeds that were sown in your lineage? What if your life is simply expressing foundations you didn’t know existed? That’s why it’s so important to go back to your roots and address the matters of your foundation.

Dealing With Faulty FoundationsThe psalmist asks, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3). It’s a sobering question. How do you deal with wrong or faulty foundations? There is only one way: pull down the entire structure, including the faulty foundation, and start afresh. And here’s the good news: For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, Christ Jesus. (1 Corinthians 3:11)He alone is the sure foundation. When your life is built on Him, you cannot be moved.
So what foundations are you actively laying today? And where do you need to pull down and rebuild on Christ, the true foundation?
