How did you know your name? How did you know that when you clicked on this post, you would hear my words? How do you know what country you currently are?
At a time, God said there was no one as blind as His servants and no one as deaf as His messengers. They could ‘see’ many things but failed to observe, and so they couldn’t truly see. In observation lies revelation. You can see so many things and still not know what they are. Sight requires focus. You can read many things and still not understand them because understanding requires discernment.
What Is Revelation?
Revelation is the unveiling of what is hidden, the exposure of what is not known or seen. This points us to two things: knowledge and vision. Revelation can come in the form of knowledge or vision. Peter knew the true identity of Jesus, and Jesus said: “My Father in heaven revealed this to you.”The identity of Jesus was hidden. Many people guessed, many compared Him to past prophets, but they all missed it. Jesus cannot be guessed; He must be revealed.
Why Revelation Matters for You
Now just like Jesus’ identity, your identity is hidden. You can’t know who you truly are apart from revelation and that revelation comes through Jesus. When Peter saw Jesus for who He was, he immediately discovered who he himself was. Jesus told him, “You are Cephas”, something Peter himself didn’t know. He thought he was just a fisherman. In the same way, you can’t define yourself just by your gifts, talents, or personality traits. You may compare yourself to successful people and try to fit into their mold, but that still won’t reveal your true identity.
When you know Jesus, you know yourself. When you see Him, you see who He created you to be and what He created you to do.True identity comes only through revelation in Christ.
Every other attempt at defining yourself is a mirage.
Every other attempt at defining yourself is a mirage.
